Edzell

Course: Edzell Golf Club

Location: Edzell, near Brechin - Angus

Brief description: 27 holes of sheer delight set in the Angus Glens. With limited parking at the clubhouse you may have to park on the street outside which is not uncommon. A single level clubhouse houses access to the Pro shop, where you check in. The lounge and dining area face the 1st and 18th and are comfortably furnished.

What to expect of the course: A par 71, at just over 6500 yards, the 18 hole course is sneakily longer than it looks. The course has a well deserved reputation as a 'must play' course as it meanders alongside a river (at times) offering stunning views and very challenging holes. The 9th hole is a terrific risk and reward par 5 where well positioned shots allow an opportunity to hit a green bordered by the West Water on the right and  rubbish left and behind. There are some more forgiving holes and the mixture just makes this course an absolute gem.

The 9 hole West Water course is a par 32 which is a lovely flat track to hone your accuracy, as that is paramount on this lovely little course.

What to expect of the overall visit: Parking can be a pain if the club is busy, but the courses make the pain subside. Really good courses where the 18 hole course is one of Scotland's best. Known to offer a carvery at weekends, the golf can be supplemented by a wonderful feast in the clubhouse as well. Edzell is a pretty village, the course shares that description but bear in mind it has well disguised teeth!
